Debit Card Fraud
How a Data Breach Occurs
A data breach occurs when a criminal obtains access to a cardholder's information by compromising the merchant's data network or affixing a device to the merchant's credit card terminal.
While the security breach is a result of activity at the merchant location, merchants are not held liable for card fraud. Instead, card issuers like Washington Financial must absorb all costs, including fraud losses and card replacement costs.
The security of your personal information is our highest priority and we employ the strongest levels of industry recognized safeguards to protect you against debit card fraud. When we are alerted to potential instances of fraud, we may from time to time, find it necessary to restrict debit card functionality by region.
