In the United States alone, buildings account for 72% of energy consumption and 38% of carbon dioxide emissions. To alleviate energy waste, Washington Financial constructed its first environmentally friendly office in January 2009. The Valley Brook office marks the first certified green building in Peters' Township and second in Washington County.
The Valley Brook office was built to be as eco-friendly as possible. The roof, insulation and ceiling tiles are all made from recycled materials. All of the wood in the building was from sustainable forests and is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The office's heating, air conditioning, and lighting are regulated by motion detectors to mitigate energy waste, and all of the materials used in the construction were natural.
Environmentally friendly buildings conserve our natural resources, improve air quality, and contribute to overall quality of life. In fact, Valley Brook's HVAC System is designed with a micro filter, which virtually eliminates air borne allergens and makes the workplace environment as clean as possible for our customers and employees. Washington Financial views the environmentally friendly initiatives as an extension of its commitment to the community.
