Washington Financial Bank is awarding contributions to 19 charities through its Customer Choice program which gives Bank customers the opportunity to vote for their favorite charity. The Bank then allocates contributions to these organizations based on customers’ votes. Washington Financial allocated $25,000 to this year’s campaign which has donated more than $600,000 since its inception in 1997.

The Federal Deposit Insurance corporation (FDIC) permanently increased insurance coverage to $250,000 per depositor on July 21, 2010. Previously, the standard maximum insurance was $100,000.

On December 7, 2009, Washington Federal Savings Bank received official notification that its application to convert to a Pennsylvania state savings bank had been approved. Effective December 28, 2009, the Bank became Washington Financial Bank – a state chartered savings bank regulated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the FDIC.

Washington Federal Savings Bank is building the first certified "Green Building" in Peters Township and the second in all of Washington County. The Bank is relocating its current McMurray Towne Center office to 430 Valley Brook Road, just less than a quarter mile from its current location.
