Carmen hails from Pittsburgh, PA. He earned degrees in Liberal Arts and Business from Pennsylvania State University and attained his MBA from Point Park University. After school, Carmen spent four years in the army. Stationed in Germany, he was assigned to an Air Defense Battalion. After his service, he worked as a commercial lender for PNC and Citizens for a combined 15 years before joining Washington Financial's team.

In his spare time, Carmen is a referee for high school football and ice hockey games. To give back to the community, he acts as a referee for many inner city schools. Carmen is a member of the South Hills networking chapter of The Small Business Network (TSBN), where he schedules presenters for their bi-monthly meetings. On the weekends, Carmen enjoys golfing, watching Pennsylvania State University football games, and skiing at Seven Springs.

Carmen feels that the most rewarding part if his job is helping small business owners. "It's always nice to know I made a difference," he said. "Small business is the backbone of the American economy. Small businesses will get America out of this current recession."
